Argweld® PurgElite® Purge Bladders and Dams:

PurgElite Tube and Pipe Purge Systems with PurgEye 100 Weld Purge Monitor

Argweld® PurgElite® Inflatable Tube and Pipe Purging Systems are available from 1" to 24" (25 to 600 mm).

High quality circumferential butt-welding of tubes or pipes with other tubes, pipes or fittings, requires inert gas to be used inside the bore to prevent oxidation and notching of the root penetration weld bead.

The tandem based Argweld® PurgElite® Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purging System has been designed specially for this work.

Each system has 2 protected inflatable dams connected by an armoured heatproof spinal tube.

Once ready to start purging, the system is inserted into the bore with one purge dam either side of the weld joint.

The spinal tube carries the gas to inflate the purge dams and the low profile valve to release the gas gently, to purge the interspace without turbulence.

When the gas connection is made and opened, the purge bladders inflate to form a seal, after which the pressure in the system opens the purge valve.

The inert gas is then fed into the space between the purge bladders expelling the air through the integral exhaust tubes.

Welding can then be carried out with the inert gas ensuring a clean even penetration bead.

Note: Welding will probably be started once the Argweld® PurgEye® Weld Purge Monitor® indicates the required low level of oxygen has been reached.

Afterwards, the purge dams are deflated simply by disconnecting the purge gas feed and the device easily removed. This uniquely designed system means that only one gas connection is required for both dam inflation and weld purging.

An equal number of outlets are provided. Unwanted connections are left closed with the blanking plugs provided.

This range of Argweld® PurgElite® Tube and Pipe Purge Systems are for pipes of nominal diameters from 1" (25 mm) to 24" (600 mm).

The connecting spinal tube can be shortened or lengthened to accommodate special requirements.

PurgElite® PURGE TIME (to 0.1% oxygen and less)

By using Argweld® PurgElite® Tube and Pipe Weld Purging Systems, the main savings, over any other system, are obtained in reduced
purging and waiting time, and in the much lower quantity of inert gas used.

Purging with old fashioned systems and homemade devices will require a flow rate of at least 24 L/min (50 cu ft/hr)
for longer periods.

The chart below shows a typical purge time to reduce the air space to less than 0.01% oxygen.

Purge time for PurgElite® Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purge System to less than 100 ppm oxygen.

Test Pipe Diameter 4" (100 mm)

Old fashioned or home made devices:

Purge time to 1,000 ppm.... 26 minutes
Flow rate 50 CFH (24 L/min).... inert gas usage 18 Cu ft (624 liters)

Argweld® PurgElite® Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purging System:

Purge Time to 100 ppm.... 3 mins 6 secs
Flow rate 21 CFH (10 L/min).... inert gas usage 0.9 Cu ft (30 Liters)
Purge Time below 35 ppm.... 7 - 10 mins (with extra gas inlet and exhaust integrated)

Argweld® PurgExtra™ Inflatable Pipe Weld Purging Systems

PurgExtra Pipe Weld Purging Systems with Extra Gas Inlets and Multiple Exhausts

Argweld® PurgExtra™ Inflatable Pipe Purging Systems are available from 2 to 24" (50 to 600 mm).

High quality circumferential butt-welding of tubes or pipes with other tubes, pipes or fittings, requires inert gas to be used inside the bore to prevent oxidation and notching of the root penetration weld bead.

The tandem based Argweld® PurgExtra™ Inflatable Pipe Purging System has been designed specially for this work.

Each system has 2 protected inflatable dams connected by an armoured heatproof spinal tube.

Once ready to start purging, the system is inserted into the bore with one dam either side of the weld joint.

The spinal tube carries the gas to inflate the dams, using a unique IntaCal® I system to release the gas gently, to purge the interspace without turbulence.

When the gas connection is made and opened, the dams inflate to form a seal, after which the pressure in the system opens the purge IntaCal®.

Each system can be fitted with PurgeGate® as an accessory. PurgeGate® is a revoluntary control mechanism for pressure and flow. With the use of PurgeGate®, the systems are guaranteed not to burst due to over pressurisation.

RootGlo® is included with every system, after exposure to light for just 10 minutes, RootGlo® with glow inside the tube or pipe for up to 20 hours. An easy positioning device.

The inert gas is then fed into the space between the dams expelling the air through the integral exhaust tubes.

Welding can then be carried out with the inert gas ensuring a clean even penetration bead.

Note:  Welding will be started once the Argweld® PurgEye® 100 IP65 Weld Purge Monitor® indicates the required low level of oxygen has been reached.

Afterwards, the dams are deflated simply by disconnecting the purge gas feed and the device can be easily removed. This uniquely designed system means that only one gas connection is required for both dam inflation and weld purging.

The Argweld® PurgExtra™ Inflatable Pipe Weld Purging System has additional purge hose inlets to allow extra purge gas to be used for welding titanium and other reactive or high specification metal joints.

An equal number of outlets are provided. Unwanted connections are left closed with the blanking plugs provided with the system.

PurgeGate® comes standard with all systems and is a revolutionary new device.

The PurgeGate® allows the user to simply turn on the gas to any pressure. The higher the pressure, the higher the flow rate for extra fast purging times.PurgeGate® protects the inflatable dams from bursting. Combined with this device, Argweld® QuickPurge® is really the easiest 'plug and play' system available for tube, pipe and pipeline weld purging.

IntaCal® purge gas release system together with sintered gas distribution ports provides non turbulence. An auxilliary argon purge line is also included.

Argweld® QuickPurge® Inflatable Tube, Pipe and Pipeline Weld Purging Systems unique innovative design uses a collar system to reduce the volume being purged providing dramatic savings in costs and time.

The robust design of the Argweld® QuickPurge® Inflatable Tube, Pipe and Pipeline Weld Purging Systems allow many years of repeatable trouble free use.

Avoid Wasting Time and Money

Traditional methods of weld purging often involve pipework fabricators making their own homemade pipe purging devices using incorrect poor quality materials, such as rubber, foam, cardboard and other similar materials which have high outgassing rates and potentially can damage welds.

Do not waste time and money with 'homemade' pipe purging devices.

These incorrect materials:

Can contain water vapour and air which can put your weld at risk!

Do not always form a perfect seal!

Can melt or burn if placed too close to the weld!

Take time and effort to produce a 'homemade' system with no guarantee of the results!

Save yourself all the struggling and opt for a professional solution and make money whilst you purge!

Argweld® HotPurge™ Heat Resistant Inflatable Pipe Weld Purging Systems

03W-HotPurgePreHeatedPipeworkPurgeSystems

The Argweld® HotPurge™ Heat Resistant Inflatable Pipe Weld Purging System comprises a tandem inflatable dam system connected by a volume reducing collar.

Available for all pipe diameters from 6 to 96" (150 to 2400 mm).

A gas system IntaCal® eliminates old fashioned valves and provides a more accurate and controlled purge gas release.

The inflatable dams and umbilical hose are covered with a heat resistant material and insulated accordingly for use in pipework where the temperatures may rise as high as 760ºC (1400ºF) for 24 hours or more.

Each system incorporates RootGlo®, a band around the centre for positioning purposes which will glow up to 12 hours inside the pipe.

PurgeGate® is the most revoluntionary device on these systems which provides pressure and flow control as well as a guarantee against bursting due to over pressurisation.

Multiple sintered outlets disperse weld purge gas evenly without turbulence.

Argweld® Inflatable Weld Purge Dams

Argweld Inflatable Weld Purge Dams Purging Bladders Systems Tubes Pipes Pipelines

Size Range 6 to 96" (150 to 2440 mm)

Manufactured for pipe diameters from 6 to 96 inches (150 up to 2440 mm), these lightweight systems are easy to inflate using the purge gas.

Leak tightness

Once the Dam is inflated and seals all around the internal circumference of the pipe, the excess inert purge gas spills out and purges the space around the weld joint, which then pushes the air out into the open atmosphere.

Proper Use

Each Dam is equipped with a purge/inflation hose (black), an extra purge gas hose (blue) as well as a hose for connecting a Weld Purge Monitor® Gas Detection and Analysing Instrument (red).

The blue hose is suitable for passing extra gas into the weld zone at any time to cool welds and meet interpass temperature specifications, or to provide extra inert gas in the event of titanium, zirconium or special stainless applications needing a guaranteed zero colour weld.

By producing bright shiny welds, there will be no porosity and there will be no loss of corrosion resistance caused by oxidation.
